This is a valuable unpublished ph.D thesis which analyzes in great detail the development of Black sea grain trade in the 19th century based on official statistical series of the Russian Empire. The port cities, their foundation and evolution over time forms the basis of the analysis of the rise of the Black sea region in the international grain trade and the role of this process to the economic development. The development of the Black sea region is linked to the expansion of the productive hinterland, the expansion of sea and land transportation networks and the diffusion of the technology of steam. /Η διδακτορική διατριβή αναφερει την ανάπτυξη του ρωσικού εμπορίου στη Μαύρη θάλασσα και τις επιπτώσεις του στην οικονομία της εποχής.

Studies of the nineteenth-century Ottoman and Russian Empires as well as of the numerous nation-states that came into existence around the Black Sea have mostly been pursued separately. This article attempts to offer an alternative framework of analysis for the study of the Black Sea world during the nineteenth century. It starts off from Femand Braudel's approach to the sixteenth-century Mediterranean world in order to discuss whether and to what extent the Black Sea region could also be conceived as a world. Not only structural similarities but also historically-specific circumstances are emphasized for supporting the parallel drawn between the sixteenth-century Mediterranean and the nineteenth-century Black Sea. A number of further intellectual questions are raised in order to demonstrate that a holistic perspective has much to offer for re-directing academic research into more promising problem areas.

The article is a commercial and geographic reference to the cities-ports of the Black Sea/ Το άρθρο αποτελεί εμπορική και γεωγραφική αναφορά στις πόλεις-λιμάνια της Μαύρης θάλασσας. 

В Материалах для описания русских портов и истории их сооружения даны общие, административные и физические сведения о Николаевском порте, который был открыт 1 июля 1862 года, по ходатайству Богдана фон Глазенапа. Коммерческий порт был открыт для захода иностранных судов с открытием таможни 1 класса, а город  - для приезда и жизни иностранцев. В порт для отправки на экспорт, кроме пшеницы, начали поступать в значительных размерах железная руда из Кривого Рога и уголь из Донецка. С 1888 года  за счёт казённых средств были построены гранитная набережная, каботажная гавань, городская международная набережная, пристань для стоянки судов землечерпального каравана.

В работе автором исследуется вопрос внешней торговли России на Азово-Черноморском направлении в последней четверти XVIII – начале XIX в., ее становление и развитие, а также значение в общероссийской торговле. Автор указывает, что уже к началу XIX в. южное направление стало одним из главных торговых направлений страны.

В сборнике в алфавитном порядке содержатся сведения о более 6000 существующих в России торговых домах. Торговые дома каждого отдела, в зависимости от рода операций, распределены на особые группы. Общее число промышленных предприятий, с указанием вложенных в них капиталов по отделиным группам. Также в сборнике помещены данные: о виде товариществ, о их наименовании, о роде деятельности, времени и месте регистрации, районе операций, размере капитала, вкладчиков, о звании, имени, отчестве и фамилии полных товарищец, о распределителях товариществ, об адресе конторы, о сроках действия товариществ.
